Today is Pancake Day or otherwise known as Shrove Tuesday. It is a tradition that is celebrated to acknowledge the first day of lent on Ash Wednesday. It is also the day where many people make pancakes to signify Shrove Tuesday and attempt to see how many times they can flip them. We have put together a guide on how to make a perfect pancake.
People have various ways of making a pancake, however, we have gone for the easiest option (they are not too difficult anyway!) The biggest decision that has to be made is what type of filling will you have? The simple and traditional sugar and lemon? Chocolate and ice cream?
Follow the steps below to make your perfect pancake.
Ingredients for four people
- Eggs x 2
- 180g Flour
- 200ml of Milk
- Sugar
- Lemon
- Oil
Cooking Equipment
- Bowl
- Frying Pan
- Whisk
- Ladle
- Plate
- Sieve
Step 1- Making your mix
- Get the bowl and add the flour to it, sieve it to make sure there are no lumps in the flour.
- Add the eggs
- Add the milk
- It’s time to whisk your ingredients together - Whisk until the mixture is smooth and air bubbles are visable.
Step 2 – Start cooking
- Add a little bit of oil to coat the frying pan and place on a high heat.
- Ladle a good amount of your mix to your pan.
- Swirl the pan around so the mix covers the bottom.
- Life the edges as it starts to cook, this will prevent it from sticking.
- Let it cook for 30 seconds and turn the pancake over to cook on the other side for a further 30 seconds, you will see when it’s safe to turn over as the pancake will look dry on top.
Step 3 – It’s time to get flipping!
- Once cooked you can start flipping your pancake, see how many flips you can do!
Step 4 – Serve and Enjoy
- If you have opted to have lemon and sugar all you need to do is place your pancake on a plate roll or fold it whichever you prefer.
- Drizzle lemon on it, sprinkle on a bit of sugar and eat!
- If you’re feeling a little more adventurous and want to add a different filling, before you serve place the chocolate inside the pancake, fold it in half and half again then serve with ice-cream!
