Roadside Assistance
Roadside Assistance is our cheapest breakdown cover option. It's designed to get you back up and running when you break down in the UK. For just £36.95, features include:
- 24/7 breakdown assistance, 365 days a year
- Up to one hour of free roadside repairs
- If your vehicle cannot be repaired: free tow to a suitable local garage within a 20-mile radius, plus transport for up to seven people and the driver
- Cover for misfuelling in the UK
This policy covers any breakdown in your car, no matter who is driving but certain terms must be adhered to. See the full breakdown policy wording (PDF, 511KB) for more information.
Roadside Assistance and Recovery
This cover includes all features offered with Roadside Assistance, plus a few extras. For £55.95, if your vehicle cannot be repaired on the same day by a local garage, our breakdown engineer will make the most suitable choice from the following options:
- 24-hour hire vehicle if yours can be repaired the next day
- Nationwide breakdown recovery for your vehicle and up to eight people including the driver, either to your original destination or your home address
- One night’s bed and breakfast for you and your passengers (£500 maximum)
- Costs of up to £250 to continue your journey via public transport
These allowances are subject to terms and conditions detailed in the full breakdown policy wording (PDF, 511KB).
Roadside Assistance and Homestart
For £60.95, our third level of breakdown cover for cars provides all the features of Roadside Assistance and Recovery, along with:
- Patrol Assistance to your home address, if your vehicle breaks down on the driveway or within a quarter of a mile of your home
If your vehicle breaks down at home before you've started your journey, we'll attempt to repair it for up to one hour. After that, your vehicle will be towed to the nearest garage within a 20-mile radius.
European car breakdown cover
Our European car breakdown cover for £104.95 means you'll be able to get roadside assistance anywhere in the UK, plus all European countries, providing the length of your trip does not exceed 31 days in a row or totals no more than 90 days during the period of cover. Roadside operators will attempt to fix your vehicle. If this isn't possible, it will then be towed to the nearest garage.
If it becomes obvious that your repairs are going to take longer than eight hours, our partner AXA Assistance (UK) Ltd will arrange and cover the costs of the most appropriate solution from the following options:
- Moving you, your passengers and your luggage to your original destination, then returning your vehicle to you once it's been repaired
- Covering the cost of a hire vehicle while yours is repaired, up to £750
- Paying for bed and breakfast costs up to £125 per person per day (up to £750 for everyone in your group) while your vehicle is being repaired, as long as you have already paid for your original accommodation and can't get a refund
If your vehicle is still not repaired or unsafe to drive by the time you need to return, our breakdown cover partner will pay for transport to get you, your passengers, and your luggage home. We will then cover the cost of returning your vehicle to your chosen repairer in the UK or pay for you to return overseas to collect it.

- Your vehicle registration number
- Details on any attachments or modifications to your vehicle
- Your current location, plus details including height restrictions
- The type of problem
- How many passengers are in your vehicle, including children
- Your full name, mobile number, and the policyholder's postcode

You can add breakdown cover to your existing Car Insurance policy mid-term, however only the UK Roadside Breakdown element of cover is available for the first 24 hours of your policy. If you add EU breakdown cover, any claims made within the first 10 days will not be covered.
