Motorists warned about snow fall

by Autonet Insurance | Dec 16, 2009

Motorists need to be on their guard as Britain is in for a bitterly cold night - with snow expected to fall on parts of the country.

Forecasters say there is unlikely to be enough to build a snowman, but those living in the South East may experience between 1-2cm of snow throughout the day and over the weekend.

Temperatures even dropped to minus 6C in some rural areas overnight, said Paul Mott, forecaster at MeteoGroup UK, the weather division of the Press Association.

Light sleet and snow flurries are expected in the South East on Wednesday afternoon, he said, with drizzle and rain in the warmer North.

More snow flurries are expected in central and eastern areas of the UK on Thursday with rural parts of Kent and East Anglia the most likely locations for a snowball fight.

"There could be up to 10 or 15cms of snow," warned Mr Mott.

More snow is expected later this week with many areas seeing a dusting of flakes by Saturday night.

"It's looking bitterly cold for at least a week," he said, adding that it was too early to predict whether it will be a white Christmas.
