Road safety event back by demand

Bike insurance companies will be interested to know that a road safety event for Essex motorcyclists held at Gloucester Park South, Basildon, last year is back by popular demand.

Riders from across the region who are passionate about motorcycles, mopeds, scooters and bicycles can participate in Essex Ride and Survive 2010.

On the day, there will be an opportunity to participate in a range of activities including test rides, bike checks, riding skills courses, cycling skills for children and free bicycle tagging and passports.

County councillor Norman Hume, chairman of the Essex Casualty Reduction Board and cabinet member for Highways and Transportation said: "Essex Ride and Survive is an essential event for all riders.

"The test rides are one of the biggest draws of the day where riders can have their skills assessed by professional riders.

"It's an interesting and thought provoking exercise for the rider and if they follow the advice given, it's one that could ultimately help save their life."

In 2009, more than 4,000 biking enthusiasts took part in the road safety event at Gloucester Park South from 10am to 4pm.
