Students accumulate '13 gadgets'

by Autonet Insurance | Sep 17, 2010

Young people will accrue an average of 13 digital entertainment gadgets during their three years of university life, a poll has shown, highlighting the need for home insurance to protect their possessions.

A survey of youngsters from the Teenage Cancer Trust charity's network by retailer Argos found the gadgets the students collected comprised three phones, two MP3 players, two digital cameras, two laptop computers, two television sets and two games consoles.

Findings revealed that most students (69%) spent at least three hours indulging in leisure activities surrounding the gadgets in their rooms per day, and most preferred new technology over TV.

During the three hours, nearly a quarter (24%) surf the net compared to just nearly a fifth (18%) who watched television.

More than half (51%) voted for the phone as their most prized procession, while 29% said they couldn't bear to lose their computer. Only 3% of young people said the TV was their prized possession.
