Which? lists the top `green` cars

A guide to the top `green` cars from consumer champion Which? says there has never been a better time to think about the environment when buying a car.

It rates the Ford Focus as the best green car for a family of four, while the Mini is the most fun green car to drive.

Others include: best for a family of five or more - Volkswagen Golf Plus; best value - Ford Fiesta Econetic; best for couples - BMW 1 Series; best for £10,000 - Citroen C1, the Peugeot 107 and the Toyota Aygo.

Best for £10,000-£15,000 - Kia Cee'd; best for £20,000-£25,000 - BMW 3 Series; best for £25,000 and above - Audi A6; cheapest annual road tax - Ford Fiesta Econetic (£0); best petrol green car - Toyota Prius (65.7 miles to the gallon).

Lowest annual fuel bill (driving 10,000 miles) - Ford Fiesta Econetic; best motorway economy - Audi A3 1.9 TDie and Mini Clubman 1.6D Cooper; best town economy - Toyota Prius; Best overall economy - Fiat Panda 1.3 multijet diesel, Toyota Yaris 1.4D-4D, Volkswagen Polo BlueMotion 1.

Which? said most of the 100 cars listed produced less than 150g of CO2 per 1km and half averaged more than 60mpg.
