Ducati leads motorbike safety bid

by  |

A pledge by Ducati to provide free back protectors to all its superbike customers is good new for motorbike insurance companies.

The Italian manufacturer reckons that deaths and serious injuries would be cut by half if all bikers wear this additional form of protection.

Since October last year it has handed out 5,000 free top-of-the-range back protectors to back the safety campaign it launched at the Intermot Show in Cologne.

The Dainese Wave protectors provide CE level-1 impact protection with a shell made from an aluminium honeycomb structure and polypropylene plates that mould to the contours of the rider`s back.

The company has also signed the European Road Safety Charter, a European Commission drive to save 25,000 lives on the road by next year.

Ducati motorbikes are not only kings of the road but have also dominated World Superbike with riders such as Troy Bayliss, Noriyuki Haga and Michel Fabrizio.
