Midlands biker wins national award

A bike enthusiast from Wolverhampton has been named Britain's biggest bike lover after riding over 100,000 miles on two wheels.

Dave Smith, 34, who has been riding for 18 years and owned more than 20 bikes, won a national search by Bennetts Insurance to find the nation's most passionate biker.

Not only has Mr Smith covered more than 100,000 miles over the years come rain or shine, his hobby has cost him around £70,000, proving his love for life on a bike.

The passionate tourer has also travelled across Europe to watch fellow enthusiasts and favourite racers, James Toseland and Shane Byrne, in the MotoGP and World Superbikes.

However, it has not always been plain sailing, with five relationships ending as a result of his love for bikes and putting them first.

He loved one bike so much that he even kept it in the living room in his old family home to save it getting wet and cold outside.

Mr Smith said: "I love the thrill of being out on the road and see it as a great way to escape the boring routines of a normal day. I take great pride in my hobby and invite anyone who hasn't been on a bike to give it a go!"
