The fallout from an investigation into last season`s Singapore Grand Prix may result in Renault leaving Formula One, Bernie Ecclestone has warned.
The race, which was the first to be held under floodlights, was won by Renault`s double world champion Fernando Alonso. However, Alonso`s former-teammate Nelson Piquet crashed on lap 14, resulting in the safety car being brought out.
However, allegations that Piquet was asked to crash his car to help Alonso win the race have been denied by Renault`s Flavio Briatore.
"This is not the sort of thing we need at the moment," said Ecclestone, speaking to the Times newspaper. "Them leaving the sport is a danger, obviously. I mean, I hope that it isn't like that, but it's the sort of thing that might happen.
"What I know, I can't say, to be honest with you. All I know is that Flavio is insisting that he knows nothing about it.
