Officials have found a car parked in a shipping container heading for The Netherlands that was stolen more than three decades ago in the US.
Customs officials found the 1965 Volkswagen van - stolen 35 years ago in the state of Washington - after opening a shipping container at the Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport.
On checking the vehicle identification number, they discovered it was listed as stolen, the Spokesman-Review newspaper reported.
The van is in perfect working condition. It was reported stolen on July 12, 1974, from a shop in the city of Spokane which sold auto upholstery, officials said. At the time, Spokane was hosting the 1974 World's Fair.
An American insurance company now has legal ownership of the van as it paid off the original owner's theft claim in 1974.
