Car pushed by lorry incident probed

by  |

An investigation is under way after dramatic footage emerged of a lorry driving down a Yorkshire motorway with a car trapped under its bumper.

Haulage firm Arclid Transport said it is making inquiries into the incident, which was captured on a mobile phone by passengers of another vehicle and posted on YouTube.

The footage shows a blue Renault Clio dragged along the fast lane on the A1 near Wetherby, West Yorkshire, by the lorry - whose driver apparently had not noticed the car.

The driver of the Clio appeared to be pushing down the brakes in an effort to release the vehicle, while a male voice in the car from where the video was filmed is heard shouting: "He hasn't even seen it."

It is believed the incident happened in January and the car driver, who has not been identified, escaped without any serious injuries.

The lorry belongs to Cheshire-based Arclid Transport, which specialises in transporting bulk powders and granular products throughout the UK.

A spokesman for the company said: "I've no idea if the video is genuine. We're actually doing an internal investigation at the moment."

Meanwhile, a West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "We are reinvestigating the collision and the matter has today been passed to our major collision inquiry team and inquiries are ongoing."
