A number of motorists will be considering putting in car insurance claims after a five-year-old boy careened into several cars while driving his family's 4x4 on a four-mile "joyride", before crashing into a wall.
The boy's father informed police that his son had driven off in the family's Mitsubishi Shogun, while several motorists reported seeing the vehicle being driven erratically and slowly by a small boy on roads east of Chichester, West Sussex.
Fortunately, the boy and other motorists were unhurt when he crashed into a wall on Pook Lane, Lavant. Sussex Police believe the boy, who has not been identified, travelled just over four miles before crashing. He was taken to St Richard's Hospital in Chichester as a precaution, but has now been reunited with his family.
Police later received reports of three other vehicles, two of which were parked, being damaged by the Shogun.
Pc Mark Ryan, of Sussex Police's road policing unit based at Chichester, said: "This was a remarkable incident and both the boy and other road users clearly had a lucky escape, as a serious collision could have happened at any stage."
