Fans offered UK film pilgrimage

Car giant Vauxhall and Visit Britain have teamed up to offer film fans a chance to visit locations from 39 blockbusters made across the UK.

The "Brit flick pilgrimage" will include movie sets such as The Full Monty, The Italian Job, Braveheart and Monty Python And The Holy Grail.

But the thought of blowing car doors off, the famous one-liner from The Italian Job, could distress anyone paying car insurance.

People taking the road trip will travel more than 1,000 miles across Scotland, Wales and England, stopping 10 times at 23 movie sets.

The package covers bed and breakfast accommodation in 10 regions as well as admission fees to tourist attractions featured in the movies.

Stephanie Lucas, from Vauxhall, said: "It's amazing the amount of UK locations used in international blockbusters, so we thought we'd pay homage to the best of British through devising a road trip with a twist."

Justin Reid, from Visit Britain, added: "Film tourism has become very popular in the last few years, with films such as Harry Potter estimated to have brought in £9 million in tourist revenue to Alnwick Castle with a 120% increase in visitors.

"We are thrilled to have worked with Astra to devise a trip that is on trend for our audience."
