Briggs announces charity comeback

by  |

Four-time World Speedway champion Barry Briggs MBE is to ride from John o'Groats to Cardiff's Millennium Stadium to raise money for Sport Relief, although how he managed to get motorbike insurance for the trip is anyone's guess.

The 75-year-old, who retired from the sport in 1976, will drive a Yamaha WR250R throughout the trip, using mostly green lanes.

He will be joined by a number of famous faces from the world of motor sport during the journey. The trip will take him to some of the courses where he made his name, before finishing in Cardiff in time for the British Speedway GP on July 10.

The majority of the £120,000 he hopes to raise will go to 12 racers left disabled by accidents during their career, Sport Relief said.
