Bikers can now check the safety of more than 200 helmets on a new website.
The website includes government safety ratings for each helmet along with information on finding the right one and how to tell it is the correct fit.
All helmets must meet minimum legal safety standards but the Department for Transport's Safety Helmet Assessment and Rating Programme (SHARP) uses a wider variety of tests to give riders more information on how much protection each helmet would offer if involved in a crash.
The tests - which award ratings of between one and five stars - show that the safety performance of helmets can vary by as much as 70%.
And once you've chosen one you can look into insuring it and your leathers when browsing bike insurance.
