June witnessed a 10.8% year-on-year increase in new car sales, marking the 12th monthly rise in a row, it has been announced.
According to Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), a more than 25% increase in fleet sales pushed total registrations to 195,226 last month.
The latest rise in new car registrations took the January-June 2010 total to 1,108,662 - a 19.9% rise on the same period in 2009.
The economic recovery has led to a rise in the sales of new cars, which means that more people are looking to buy new car insurance.
However, the SMMT has warned that sales could decrease again before the end of the year as the Government's car scrappage scheme has now been closed.
Also last month, the Vauxhall Astra emerged as the best-selling model, leaving behind other top vehicles including the Ford Fiesta, Nissan Qashqai, Mini, Volkswagen Golf and BMW 3 Series.
This is the first time the Astra has taken the number one spot since February 2008.
