Olympic gold winning track cyclist Sir Chris Hoy has emerged unscathed from a car crash even though his £80,000 Jaguar was badly damaged in the collision, it has been reported.
Police said Sir Chris smashed up his new XKR sports car as it collided with a Vauxhall Vectra, highlighting that even knighted Olympians need car insurance.
No-one was injured in the crash, police said.
A spokesman for Sir Chris said the 34-year-old cycling star was not hurt in the accident and is continuing with his training in preparation for the start of the season.
He said: "Chris was slowly edging forwards to turn right into a main road when the front of his car was hit from the right by a car that had overtaken the queue of stationary traffic by driving on the chevron area.
"The driver of the other car apologised to Chris and admitted it was his fault."
The spokesman said there were no passengers in either of the cars.
