Persistent fog disrupted flights at the UK's largest airport on Tuesday, with passengers experiencing delays and cancellations.
Poor visibility at Heathrow airport forced air traffic controllers to impose "very severe restrictions on the number of aircraft that could take off and land each hour".
British Airways cancelled some short-haul flights, while others faced long delays. This highlights the importance of an adequate travel insurance policy, which can provide a safety net against such common problems.
BA, the main carrier at the west London airport, said: "Customers were rebooked onto alternative services or given a full refund. We apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused, but the situation was beyond our control."
