Skiers heading to snowy slopes this winter should make sure that they get all-inclusive travel insurance cover to guard against any unforeseen expenses during their trip, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has said.
Although skiing is one of the most dangerous hobbies, close to one in three people do not take out travel insurance for their trip. Those that do are being urged to check the small print on their travel insurance policies as almost two in three people do not know that a number of insurance schemes do not cover off-piste accidents.
Figures also show that only 53% of people are aware about what European Health Insurance Cards (EHICs) cover, and many others are under the impression that they include a helicopter ambulance, medical repatriation and ski patrol to help get a skier noff the slopes.
Britons are also being warned by the FCO not to drink before attempting to conquer the slopes, after consular staff had to provide assistance to a number of people were injured as a result of being drunk.
