Chauffeur service marks fee change

by  |

Swedish car maker Volvo offered passengers a free chauffeur service to London's Congestion Charge Zone in three of its low-emission DRIVe models, to mark the introduction of the new Greener Vehicle Discount.

Under the new rules, any car which complies with Euro 5 rules with CO2 emissions below 100g/km will not have to pay the £10 fee, which will enable the owners to save up cash to spend for car insurance.

To mark the occasion, Volvo offered to drive people attending meetings in the city to their appointments in three of its low-emission models - the Volvo C30 hatchback, S40 saloon and V50 sportswagon. All three qualify for the Greener Vehicle Discount.

Peter Rask, regional president of Volvo Car UK, said: "Through our ongoing Emissions Equality campaign, Volvo has been instrumental in persuading the Mayor to change the Congestion Charge rules and create a level playing field for all vehicles regardless of powertrain.

"The new system addresses issues with the old pricing structure, which granted automatic exemption to all hybrid vehicles, despite the fact that certain models had higher emissions than some non-qualifying petrol or diesel powered models."
