Lotus Evora for patrol officers

by  |

A Lotus Evora sports car is being used by police officers to patrol a section of highways in the West Midlands as part of a two-week trial.

Officers of the Central Motorway Police Group will be patrolling the M5, M6 and M42 as well as the M6 toll road in the fully-liveried car, which is on loan from its Norfolk-based manufacturer.

The officers said that the Evora, which has a top speed of 168mph, will help them catch lawbreakers on the road.

Motorists who are caught speeding face hefty fines, points on their licences and higher car insurance premiums.

Pc Angus Nairn told The Daily Mail: "It's a very quick car and we hope it will prove an effective deterrent to anyone thinking of speeding or trying to outrun us.

"It will attract a lot of attention on the motorways but that is the whole idea."

The sports car reaches goes from zero to 60mph in less than five seconds.
