Spain emerged as the most popular destination for a quarter of Britons taking a fly-drive holiday during the 2010/11 winter season, according to carhiremarket.com.
The comparison site found that Palma de Majorca was the most visited place during December 2010 and January 2011, suggesting that many Britons looking to get away for a touch of winter sun would have looked into appropriate travel insurance cover for trips to the Spanish island.
The second most visited destination was Malaga, followed by Alicante, according to the figures.
The US also proved to be popular among Britons looking to get away from snow and ice, with Orlando making it into the top 10 destinations.
Anel Brun, product manager for carhiremarket.com, said: "As the Met Office warned late last year that December was almost certainly the coldest since records began, many Brits took to the skies and flew off to sunnier climes."
