Motor Codes, the regulatory body for the motor industry, has announced its annual list of top 10 garages voted most trustworthy by motorists in the country.
The watchdog has named the regional finalists as voted for by drivers in its Golden Garages competition.
The car service and repair centres will now be examined by an expert judging panel before an overall champion is announced next month. The results will be welcomed by cash-conscious motorists as a well maintained vehicle can help to save on car insurance.
Commenting on the contest, Chris Mason - managing director of Motor Codes - said: "Fighting back against the negative image often unfairly associated with garages, Golden Garages is there to champion examples of good service. It allows motorists to tell fellow drivers about the safe havens - garages that give top customer service.
"It's this word of mouth recommendation that's so important. Our feedback shows us that people will drive some distance to get the service they know and trust or that friends have told them about. Golden Garages will help spread the word about the good guys."
The top 10 list includes Colchester's Roy Tolley, Crescent Motoring Services in Burton upon Trent, ABP Motorsport in Crewe, Paul Robbie Motor Services located in Hexham and Lisburn's SERE SEAT centre.
