New electric car owners might find it difficult to get an insurance quote for their vehicle, as a study found that most insurance websites have not been updated for greener models.
A study by TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk aimed to examine the preparedness of car insurance firms and price comparison websites following the UK's first deliveries of electric vehicles.
Findings of the research revealed that only two of the four biggest price comparison websites were able to offer insurance quotes for the latest electric cars.
The study found that six out of the 10 major UK insurance companies and brokers surveyed could not provide quotes for electric cars via their websites, while those offered were too expensive.
Two of these insurance firms did not even list some of the biggest names in the electric car market including the Nissan Leaf, Peugeot iOn and Mitsubishi i-MiEV.
However, Faye Sunderland, editor, TheGreenCarWebsite, said: "Things will get better as electric cars become more prevalent on the road and premiums should start to come down."
