Speed lovers can look forward to a momentous event with Don Wales and the Bluebird Electric team about to start their bid to break the UK land speed record for an electric car.
The event, to be held at Pendine Sands in Wales over the weekend of August 13 and 14, will form part of a series of trial runs which the team is planning in their odyssey to cross the 500mph-target in 2013.
The current record is 307.666mph.
The Government has offered a subsidy of £5,000 on the purchase of every electric car, but buyers might want to look for competitive car insurance packages if to save a bit more money.
Don Wales, grandson of legendary racing motorist Sir Malcolm Campbell, already holds the UK land speed record in the electric category (139mph) which he set in 2000.
His next month's target will be to beat the 175mph speed set by his own grandfather in 1927.
