Cleanliness is one of the major factors that travellers keep in mind while on holiday, research said.
A total of 59% of British holidaymakers admit to having cleaned up their hotel room themselves before the staff turned up, Hotels.com said.
Along with a clean holidaying environment, a comprehensive travel insurance deal can also help relieve stress while on vacation.
While 60% of the respondents said they made the bed themselves, around the same number said it was "rude" to leave their room in a mess.
The survey, which polled 2,000 people, found only 4% enjoyed cleaning, but 45% were anxious not to be labelled "messy" by hotel staff.
As many as 43% said they cleaned up as a matter of routine, and 27% disliked hotel staff touching their personal belongings.
"Going on holiday is all about getting a break from the routine of home life, yet it's evident many Brits just can't drop the cleaning when away," said Hotels.com communications director Alison Couper.
