Commercial vehicle sales increased again in August with new registrations going up 22.8% year-on-year, according to new figures.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said 10,640 light commercial vehicles (LCV) were registered, taking the sales figure for the year past 250,000.
From a low point at the start of the 2011, LCV sales have picked up steadily which has been good news for providers of van insurance.
The lack of growth in sales of rigid trucks over 3.5 tonnes was offset by a strong performance from articulated trucks, with HGV sales 23% above August last year at 2,411.
SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt. welcomed "the strong and sustained bounce-back" across much of the van and truck industry.
The SMMT warned it may be difficult to sustain the pace of growth given the uncertain economic circumstances but Mr Everitt said he was optimistic about the future.
