A survey conducted by motoring website motoring.com has found the top 5 most popular satnav voices to accompany you on your journeys.
The website asked 1000 motorists which voice they preferred to hear on their travels. While some of the top 5 voices were conducted by impersonators, some were actually performed by the celebrity themselves, including the top choice.
While these top 5 may be the most popular voice, whether you can understand their directions or not is a different story entirely.
1. Brian Blessed
Top choice as voted for by motoring.com readers was the actor Brian Blessed, reprising his role as Vultan from the hit 1980 film Flash Gordan. Phrases include, “Drive Hawkmen, drive” along with “Gordon’s arrived”.
2. Homer Simpson
America’s favourite father took time out from going into space and jumping Springfield gorge on a skateboard to provide hapless motorists with directions. How could anyone get lost again when Homer Simpson tells you, “U-turn ahead. How do I know that? Through the magic of GPS of course with I assume stands for Gorilla Pant Suit”.
3. Tom Cruise
Telling motorists that “I feel the need, the need for speed” may not be the best thing to do, but it’s got Tom Cruise to the third most popular satnav voice.
4. Darth Vader
Turning to the dark side could be the wrong decision, but it’s ok as Darth Vader is there to guide you.
“Turn around when possible, I find your lack of faith disturbing. Then, take the second left, sense your way.”
Next your satnav will be saying it’s your father.
5. Roger Moore
The smoothness of James Bond has ensured that Roger Moore enters in at number 5. Users say he offers ‘proper directions’ with his ‘distinctively warm voice’.
Others who fell just outside the top five include Peter Griffin from Family Guy, Yoda, Bugs Bunny, and Kitt the talking car from the Night Rider series.
