For more than a quarter (26%) of British motorists, their own looks come first followed by the appearance of their vehicle.
Total Lubricants commissioned a survey which showed that many motorists are unaware of the basics of car maintenance, with nearly a quarter (24%) of drivers preferring to look after their garden rather than their vehicle.
The study revealed that only a little more than half (54%) of drivers know how to change their tyres. But 59% of motorists do not know how to check their car radiator.
By failing to maintain their vehicles properly, motorists risk having to make a claim on their car insurance.
Meanwhile, a total of 60% of drivers have no clue about how to select the correct oil for their vehicle, as Britons spend more time choosing cooking oil than engine oil, the study said.
