Incorrectly fitted car child seats can be fatal in the event of a collision, and one police force has vowed to prevent that tragedy from striking.
In a bid to educate parents on how to fit car seats properly, Merseyside Police is hosting two safety events in the Wirral.
Badly fitted car seats can cause a child to be injured or even killed if their vehicle is involved in a collision. Fitting child seats properly is of paramount importance when setting off on a family journey, as is ensuring that your road tax and car insurance is in order.
Sergeant Craig O'Brien said: "We see a worrying number of people who don't have their child's car seat fitted properly. This could have tragic consequences should they be involved in a collision."
Officers from the Roads Policing Department, in collaboration with Wirral Road Safety Department and the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), are holding the safety events between 10am and 3pm at Croft Retail Park in Bromborough on October 13 and at Tesco supermarket in Heswall on October 18.
"We will be at Croft Retail Park and Tesco to provide advice to people on the correct fitting of car seats and will be happy to check they have their child car seats fitted properly as well as to offer any other advice about road safety," said Sergeant Craig O'Brien.
