Flood warnings have been issued for several areas in the UK even as the Met Office predicted more heavy rain.
Scarborough, North Yorkshire, Bridlington and East Yorkshire will be among the worst affected places, according to the Met Office.
Flood alerts are in place for rivers and coastal areas in Cornwall and Devon, as well as parts of Wales. Residents may now want to double check if their home insurance policies are valid and comprehensive.
MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said: "The heavy rain we had in the South and the South West yesterday has pushed north-eastwards across England and Wales into southern Scotland overnight.
"Any lingering rain across England and Wales will clear this morning, but across northern and eastern Scotland it will linger for much of the day. There will be some heavy and prolonged outbursts there.
"Following that rain there will be sunny spells and showers, some of which will be quite heavy, and possibly some lightning strikes."
