Enjoy added peace of mind with windscreen cover through Autonet

When you're out and about on the roads, windscreen chips and cracks can happen at any point - and there's often very little you can do to prevent it. Even the smallest chip has the potential to turn into a large crack, so it may be useful to have windscreen insurance cover in place to help with the cost of any repairs.

Some core policies will include windscreen cover insurance as standard. But, if not, you may want to consider adding this extra level of protection, safe in the knowledge that a claim won't affect your no-claims bonus on your main policy. You can include this cover through Autonet for just £35.95, so read on to find out more.

What's included with windscreen insurance cover?

It might be called windscreen insurance cover, but the policies you'll find through us actually cover all the windows in your car.

Please note, however, that windscreen insurance cover doesn't include sunroof or panoramic window protection, and you can't make a claim within the first 30 days of the policy start date.

While your windscreen is the most likely to suffer damage, we'll also cover against any chips, cracks or other damage to the glass in your vehicle. This means you can recoup the cost of window repairs or replacements for a one-off annual payment of just £35.95.

With our windscreen cover insurance, you'll get:

  • Windscreen cover
  • Side and rear window cover
  • Up to £300 of cover, per policy term, subject to a £50 excess on any claim if you use an approved repairer or £100 excess on any claim if you use a non-approved repairer

Damage to the glass in your vehicle can occur when you least expect it, so it could be useful to have windscreen cover in place to protect you against unexpected repair costs and keep you safe on the road. Having windscreen cover can give you that extra peace of mind and encourage you to get smaller chips and cracks fixed before they get worse.

While you might think your motor insurance comes with windscreen cover as standard, it's not always part of every policy. So, it's worth checking your documents and, if it's not included, you might want to consider separate windscreen cover insurance through us. Our UK-based claims helpline is open 24 hours a day, so you can call us whenever you need to.

Windscreen damage is a particular pain for motorists because it can happen to anyone. The nature of how chips and cracks develop means you can be the most cautious driver in the world and still be unlucky. Common causes of windscreen damage are:

  • Stones and debris from the road Whether you do most of your driving on country lanes or motorways, there's always debris on the road which can be disturbed by other traffic. Another car might cause a small stone to kick up and hit your windscreen, or you might pass roadworks where there's more debris on the road surface than usual. You can do your best to avoid damage by driving slowly in areas where the road conditions aren't great, or when passing heavier vehicles that can pick up debris more easily.
  • Extreme heat or cold Sudden and extreme changes in temperature can cause stress cracks to your windscreen. Your windscreen expands in hot conditions and contracts in the cold, which can put a strain on the glass panel if it happens quickly enough. Likewise, be careful when defrosting your vehicle - pouring hot water over your windscreen where the inside temperature is colder than the outside can cause the glass to crack.
  • Structural weakness Windscreens play a big part in the overall safety of the vehicle, but this means they're fixed with a strong adhesive which puts them under substantial pressure. If there is any structural weakness within the glass panel, the windscreen, particularly at the edges, can crack.

Our windscreen cover will cost you just £35.95 for the year.

Our policies don't cover sunroof or panoramic window damage, and you can't make a claim within the first 30 days of holding the policy.
