It’s time for the Autonet charity update! Since the last update the Charity Committee have been busy fundraising and donating to local and national charities. We had a successful fundraising week for the Ruby Owen Appeal, a substantial donation has been made to the Cheethams Children Centre and marathon runner Chris Price has also been sponsored.

The Ruby Owen Appeal

Fundraising events took place for a week to raise money for a local four year old named Ruby Owen. Ruby needs vital funds to get Proton Therapy treatment in America which isn’t available in the UK. The total that needs to be raised is £120,000. A cake sale took place with staff members baking the cakes in their own time and selling them to work colleagues. Three dress down days also went ahead with one being a wear Red for Ruby day, selling of Ruby’s Army wristbands and a general collection. The total raised was a staggering £2,379.60!

Chris Price

Sponsorship has been made to marathon runner Chris Price who is running a total of 32 half marathons throughout 2012 to raise money for the Matthew Good Foundation. The foundation was set up by Matthews’s family after he passed away whilst running the Humber Half Marathon which Chris also participated in.  Money that is raised goes towards research into an area of science that isn’t looked at as closely as it should be and it hopes to find out the reasoning behind sudden deaths that occur for no reason. Autonet sponsored Chris £500 for his races. Everyone wishes Chris the best of luck!

Cheethams Children Centre

Autonet Charity Committee made the decision to donate funds to enable North Staffs Hospital to provide a counselling room for the Cheethams Children Centre. The counselling room will be used for staff to talk to families and patients at the centre. Members of the Charity Committee visited Cheethams Children Centre to present a cheque for a staggering £2200.

Steve Rushton, Charity Manager for the University Hospital of North Staffordshire commented: “We are truly grateful for local companies such as Autonet Insurance to be involved. The money that Autonet have contributed will go towards a Counselling Room and furniture which is needed.”

As you can see donations and sponsorship for deserving charities local and national have already taken place which is fantastic considering we are only a third of the way through the year. Look out in April for the next Autonet charity update!
