Motability customers should be aware that over the next few years the government is gradually replacing the Disability Living Allowance (DLA) with the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for disabled drivers aged between 17 and 64.

To be eligible there is now a new set of criteria that you have to meet, which means that some disabled motorists may not quality for mobility support. If you have leased your car through Motability you might not have had to go through the process of buying car insurance.

Making a claim 

We hope that you'll never need to report a claim but sadly accidents do happen. Make sure you save this number (0330 343 9279) in your phone, and if possible collect as much of the following information before calling to help speed along the process of your claim:

  • Take full details of the other drivers, including their phone numbers, insurance details, names, addresses and the registration number of all vehicles involved.
  • Make a note of; what happened, where the incident took place, damage to the vehicles, any injuries caused, property damage, any road markings, weather/visibility/lighting.
  • Find an independent witness (if there are any).
  • Take photographs that you may be able to later use as evidence if you need to make a claim.


No-claims bonus 

If you have leased your car through Motability, you will not have accumulated any personal no claims bonus. However Autonet Mobilty offer the option to use a claims letter obtained from RSA Motability which contains your claims experience which could be used to reduce your overall policy premium.

Breakdown Cover

If you chose to take out an insurance policy with Autonet Mobility, you will automatically be entitled to AXA Assistance's breakdown cover with homestart recovery. This means that if your car breaks down at the side of the road or at home, AXA Assistance will arrange for a breakdown vehicle to come to your location to try and get your car working again, and with an average call out time of 60 minutes for roadside assistance, you shouldn't be waiting around for too long. Other benefits include:

  • 4 out of 5 vehicles repaired at the roadside

Motor Legal Expenses

Another product that is automatically included with policies from Autonet Mobility is Motor Legal Expenses insurance. If you are involved in a road traffic accident that wasn't your fault your insurance will not provide you with any compensation for:

  • Personal injury and loss of earnings
  • Assistance to recover any accidental damage excess you have paid
  • Out of pocket expenses such as;
  • Telephone calls
  • Transport costs
  • Items that may have been damaged in the accident

With Motor Legal Expenses you would be entitled to legal assistance and cover for legal costs of up to £100,000 to pursue compensation for the above. You would also keep 100% of any compensation made to you by the third party insurer.
